Jon B. and DJ Quik Perform Close to Home...

Jon B. and DJ Quik performed in Libertyville, IL. thanks to Tastemaker Television. Being so close to the crib, it was an event I couldn't miss. They both put on dope shows. Jon B. performed first and sang Don't Talk, They Don't Know and Someone To Love. DJ Quik even came up onstage to help sing backgrounds on Don't Talk. BUT...the real treat was when Jon B. did a cover of Michael Jackson's Rock With You and a melody of 90's r&b songs.

Quik came on aftwards and had everybody rockin' as soon as he hit the stage. Dude is a real talented kat when is comes to music and is one of hip-hops most underrated producers. He ended his performance with Tonite and Born and Raised in Compton.

Can't wait until next month's event. Shoutout to Tastemaker Television Network for bringing real music and live performances to Lake County. These videos are from my phone so the sound ain't the best. Check it out anyways...

New Jon B. Album - Helpless Romantic = Real R&B

To make a long story short.....Jon B's new cd, 'Helpless Romantic', is dope. Go get it. Jon B is one of the few artist out now that I will actually go to the store to buy a cd for. Gotta support dope independent artists.

Jon B. is one of the most underrated R&B artists of the last decade. Dude just doesn't make wack albums (cds) and this one is no different. He scares me at the beginning of the joint with a NeYo/Chris Brown sounding song (It's U), but then settles in to vintage Jon B. material. His last cd in 2004, 'Stronger Everyday', was very very slept on. This is Robin Thicke with more soul. I shouldn't say that cause really he was bangin' before Robin Thicke. So if u want a real r&b cd that can pretty much play all the way through, this is it. Glad to see Jon B. back. Peep the 80's cd cover.

Review of Lalah Hathaway's cd "Self Portrait"

Usually when i go on a road trip i like to pick 1 or 2 cds that i haven't listened to and listen to the entire cd all the way through. One of the cds i picked this time was Lalah Hathaway's latest cd, "Self Portrait". I had already skimmed and listened to certain tracks on the cd, but since i lost my ipod (damn it!), I didn't have a chance to listen to the whole joint.

This cd is by far the best R&B cd that i've heard this year. By far!!!! And i listen to alot of music. If u like straight R&B with no gimmicks, this is that joint. I can't even say what my favorite joint on the cd is cause there are so many. Lalah's vocals on top of the smooth hypnotic tracks are a great mix. I haven't found a cd that I could play all the way through in a long time. I think i may have skipped one song. The vibe is straight (neo) soul music with a touch of jazz. She got the type of joints you'll hear in somebody's car and say "WHO IS THIS!?!?!" Think Jill Scott without the poetic undertones and format. Think Anita Baker 2008. Think female Luther Vandross before he went to the "pop" tart charts. Lalah should pick up alot of new fans with this cd.

Lalah Hathaway was already on my top 5 favorite female singers list. Her voice is flawless like her father Donny Hathaway's was. She moved up the list a couple notches after listening to this. So if your looking for some good music, check out Lalah Hathaway's "Self Portrait". U don't have to believe me.....check it out for yourself....

On the way back home i will be reviewing Erykah Badu's latest cd, "New Amerykah"
